The assignment was to get a freelance job for my Business Marketing class. I knew someone who had a heating and air conditioning business. So I asked him if he wanted a logo for his business. He said he did so I asked him a few questions about what he wanted. He was already using a snowflake on his business card and he said he wanted a smiley face symbolizing a happy customer. I suggested symbolizing the summer as well as the winter since he did air conditioning as well as heating. I did some research on logos for heating and air conditioning businesses. I found some using a snowflake and the sun, symbolizing winter and summer. However I did not copy them. I created first the snowflake and found that part of it could also be used as a sun pattern. I then created a smiley face and put it in the center to symbolizing a happy customer in winter or summer. He liked it and showed it to his wife. He said she also liked it and she was a hard person to please.

Corporate Identity Logo
The assignment for my Business Marketing class was to create my own corporate identity logo. My last name is Sjoberg which is Swedish. Sjo means lake and berg means mountain. So I decided to call my company Mountain Lake Design and designed my logo to go with the name. In other words use a mountain and a lake in my logo design. I created a mirror image of the mountain, distorted it, changed the opacity and added a ripple effect to make it look more like a reflection in a lake. I then created a banner and added my company name.
Cereal Box Design
The assignment in my Illustrator II class was to design the layout for a cereal box. We were allowed to use the template from the tutorial we did of a cereal box and we could use an existing name brand but we had to create our own cereal name, design a logo for that cereal and design the layout. For the front panel I took a picture of a spoon of cereal and masked everything out except for the spoon of cereal. I added cheese colored marshmallow cereal bits to the spoon of cereal for cheesecake bits. For the cereal logo I traced a slice of strawberry cheesecake. For the back panel I found a picture of a family eating breakfast. Originally there was only one cereal bowl. I used photoshop to modify the picture. I copied the half of the cereal bowl visible in front of the boy and copied it again only I flipped it horizontally to create the other half of the boil. Then I copied it twice more putting one in front of the sister and also one in front of the father. I copied the front panel of the cereal box and placed it on the front of a picture of a cereal box to give it depth and placed it in front of the gallon of milk which was in the original picture. I created a recipe card and added a banner which I copied from the banner I had created for my corporate identity logo.
Music Event Poster
The assignment for my photoshop class was to create a music event poster. We were given the event information. We were also given about fifty pictures of which we had to use at least three. We were allowed to use the band name or logo as part of the design.
I chose a picture of the Bonneville Salt Flats. I had to copy and modify the desert to extend to the bottom of the poster. The second picture I used was the swirl pattern surrounding Chicago. I had to copy and flip it so I could use it on both sides of the Chicago logo. I used different effects to make it look like it was burned into the desert and make it look like it fades into the distance. The third picture was a picture of smoke. It had a black background so I had to use the magic wand tool to select and remove the black out of the picture leaving only the smoke. I then added it as the top layer to make it look like the swirl pattern and Chicago had just been burned into the desert.
I took the Chicago logo off one of their album covers used different effects to make it look like it was burned into the desert. I also distorted it to make it look like it is very large extending to the mountains.
I added a transparent layer to the bottom and added the event information. I tried to find a font that would go along with the Chicago logo and added an effect to it to make it stand out more.
Griffin
In this photoshop project we were asked to sketch the image we wanted to create and then list all the photos we would need to create the image.
I sketched a picture of a griffin on a rocky mountain with an ominous cloudy sky in the background. I had to use a picture of a mountain, a lion, a griffon vulture head, bird wings and an ominous cloudy sky.
I found a picture of the mountains and masked out part of the mountains and the sky. I added the picture of the sky as the bottom layer to make it the background. I found a picture of a female lion with her feet in a certain position and then flipped it horizontally so it would be standing on the rock outcrop. I masked out the head. The lion image was copied and different effects were used to make it look like a shadow. I took the picture of the griffon vulture head, masked out the neck and changed the size to match the body of the lion. The head was blended with the lion body. My instructor found a picture of a bird which had its wings in just the right position to go on the lion. I masked out the bird leaving only its wings. Some effects were applied to the wings to make it look like the light is shining through the wings.

1930's Soda Ad
This Photoshop project was to pick a decade and product. Then create an ad for that decade and product.
I chose to do a soda ad for the 1930's. After much research I found the high resolution photo's I needed. I found a photo of Joe Dimaggio and masked everything out accept for Joe. I found a photo of a new baseball and added a textured layer mask to make it look older. I also rotated the ball and Joe just happened to be centered between the stitches. The position of Joe's feet also happened to fit the shape of the ball. I found a photo of a banner for the 1936 World Series which the New York Yankees won. That also happened to be the same year Joe started playing for the Yankees. I used the clone tool to eliminate the original text and then created my own text. I found a photo of a soda bottle and created a label for it. I used the red color from the banner for the background and added a textured layered mask to make it look more vintage. The fonts used for the text were also 1930's, Futura and Wrexham.
